Six months L.A. underground rock scene experience with those masters of the odd-timed and weird, Van Gogh's Ear, including gigs at Madam Wong's East and West and Club 88. Jazz dates with various players in various clubs and circumstances along the L.A. coastline. Jazz for 7 Sundays at Corky's in Seal Beach with guitarist Tom Bevan, who has recorded with Maynard Ferguson. Roommates with Paul Kriebeck, who has played drums with Ray Charles; living room was one long continuous jam session (I watched when he played drums and played when he played vibes generally). Many gigs with Dan Patruch, who has played with Rick Duvey, Blue By Nature, Chris Ho, etc. Seven mostly solid months of top 40 hotel lounge experience with dance band Private Party, including extended stays at the Sheridan Round Barn Inn in Santa Rosa, CA., The Lake Arrowhead Hilton, and the Westen Hotel in Tulsa, OK. One song on stage with Patrice Rushin during a concert for 500 people given by the Long Beach City College Jazz Band.A number of casuals with seminal rock and roll wedding band, Tenants Only. Won a scholarship for 400 dollars in free lessons with jazz recording artist Frank Potenza through the LBCC jazz program. Studio recording work on many demos.
